Pursuit S 358

By Tim Banse

Pursuit’s S 358, the latest addition to Pursuit’s Sport family, is the company’s first-ever center console in its size class. At the bow’s wraparound seating, actuating the backrests creates two lounges. Raise the motorized bow table (replete with synthetic-teak inlay) halfway to lay down a sun pad. Alternatively, elevate it a tad higher to dine. Lower for a footrest or drop it flush to the deck.

Overhead, a fiberglass hardtop, with a three-sided, tempered-glass windshield, shades, the helm station, triple seats, and an ergonomically designed dash. The starboard side of split foldaway mezzanine seats folds, revealing an impressive entertainment center.

Cabin access is via a port-side console door. The air-conditioned space includes wooden cabinetry, a modest galley, a V-berth, a settee, and flat-screen television. This Pursuit is one of a handful of center-consoles of its size boasting an enclosed wet head. Twin skylights and opening portholes stream ambient light and ventilation.

Abaft, the covered summer galley includes an electric grill, refrigerator, and sink. Its foldout trays convert into twin, aft-facing mezzanine seats complemented by a fold-down transom bench. In effect, this creates a social center in the aft cockpit.

On the angling side of the balance sheet, the extra-wide cockpit’s angling amenities are generously proportioned: A 32-gallon live well, 12-rod holders, a tackle center, plus port and starboard in-sole insulated fish boxes replete with diaphragm pump-outs. 18-foot Taco Marine outriggers are optional. A standard inward-opening starboard-side door makes it easy to finesse a tuna or swordfish aboard. It does double duty as a dive door or an entry port from dockside.

Swim platforms extend well aft alongside the outboards for surefooted re-boarding after a swim and provide access to the twin Yamaha outboards.
